Physostegia virginiana (Obedient plant)

Physostegia virginiana is known as obedient plant, commonly found in moist meadows, wet woodland edges, and stream banks. Despite a delicate appearance, it's vigorous and adaptable, forming substantial colonies through underground rhizomes. The plant's ability to tolerate periodically wet soils makes it useful for rain gardens and other landscapes where many drought-adapted perennials would struggle.

The plant typically grows 2–4 feet tall on stout square stems. From mid to late summer, tall bloom spikes become covered with tubular, two-lipped flowers in shades of pink, lavender, or white. The common name "obedient plant" comes from a unique characteristic of the flowers; they can be gently pushed or rotated to the side of the stem, where they will remain in their new position—at least temporarily. 

The flowers open progressively along the spike, creating a long-lasting display that is especially attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The appearance of the flowers gives it another name, the false dragonhead.
